Bill Freeman
Discipline(s): Oil
Bio:
Bill Freeman was born of artist parents in North Carolina. After his father died suddenly, Bill's mother took her four small children to West Texas. Bill grew up spending as much time as he could outdoors. After he finished with school and the Army, Bill worked for cattle and dude ranches all over the West for a period of ten years. Then there were two very important years with the Arizona Game and Fish Department, aiding the biologists with their wildlife research, and sometimes illustrating their publications. With their encouragement, Bill finally devoted his energies to painting full time.

Bill's love of nature is unbounded, with a preference for rugged mountains and their companions, the desert flora and fauna, the dry washes, the mauve distances of terrain, the unruly outcroppings, big skies and tantalizing colors. He is well known for his colorful palette-knife paintings of the Western landscape.

Bill's boundless curiosity spurs him to create in many mediums, including reproduction Native American pottery and mixed media Western wall hangings. To see Bill's three-dimensional works, please see his listing on our website under "sculptors."

Bill is well-known for mentoring many students in his areas of expertise and is well-respected in the Western art community. During the winter months, he lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, but he readily packs up and heads for Jackson Hole, WY when summer comes.
