Bio:
After successfully meeting life’s personal and professional challenges, Marilyn has found peace and joy as an artist in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

For over 20 years, she dreamed of life as a full-time artist while patiently waiting for this time. Collecting images in her mind and in her files she now has the opportunity to express her art. In this idyllic setting, she has found the freedom to pursue her artistic vision. Through her life and in her art, she shares the “beautiful puzzle” with all those who experience her work.

In 1999, the opportunity to pursue her lifelong dream came true when she and her husband and best friend Derrick reached a turning point. After years of hard work as a career nurse, actively supporting the family business and helping her husband with charitable causes she and Derrick confronted and overcame serious illnesses in their family. It was at this time, too, that the last of seven family members and friends for whom she had devoted all of her remaining personal time and energy providing for their care passed away.

It was time to come to Jackson Hole.

As a nurse in Los Angeles, she worked from skid row to Beverly Hills practicing nursing and learning important lessons. All people, regardless of their station in life, are part of the same tapestry. Like hospital gowns, while the colors may change the fabric is the same.

Her first adventure in art was to draw her favorite creature, a wide-eyed owl in a tree. This first attempt led to a series of works depicting owls in their natural habitat. She fell in love with creating illusion.

Inspired, Marilyn voraciously pursued knowledge in workshops and independent art classes. She then began her formal education as a juried student at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. At first, full of fear, she was delighted that her younger classmates made her feel welcome. She was immediately challenged in her first class to draw the human form. The nude model was definitely not an apple.

As a nurse who understands the technical aspects of human anatomy, Marilyn was in awe as she learned techniques used by artists. Using light, shadow and color to create the components of the human form she discovered the “beautiful puzzle”.

Now seeing the “beautiful puzzle” in all that she views, she continues to find beauty in the complex relationships of light, shapes and colors in the majesty of the land surrounding Jackson Hole. Her landscapes possess an arresting visual imagery. Informed by her personal experiences and inspired by her surroundings, she brings her passion to the canvas to produce emotional interaction between artist and viewer.

Marilyn was honored by the Art Center College of Design when the college published her work.

Her longest and most cherished mentor, Rosita Tseu has been a constant source of support.
