Bio:
Jennifer L. Hoffman was born and raised in the rural Pennsylvania Dutch community of Ephrata. She began drawing as soon as she could hold a pencil. She grew up with a love of the outdoors that was only exceeded by her fascination with art. After a year in college as an English major, her desire to create art took over. In 1992, she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Printmaking from the University of Delaware.
While in college, Jennifer enjoyed intensive art history study. An interest in the landscape genre grew from that study; plein-air painting seemed like a natural way to combine her love of art and the outdoors. In 1996 she moved west to pursue that interest. A week after arriving in Jackson, Wyoming she met landscape painter Scott Christensen. In the course of an afternoon, she was hired as his studio assistant where she worked for over a year. From Scott, she learned volumes about painting outdoors. She went on to work for the National Museum of Wildlife Art where she continued to study the techniques and approaches of great artists. In 2004, She became a full time artist.
Jennifer works primarily in oil and pastel but also enjoys charcoal, graphite, gouache, and relief and intaglio prints. An admirer of great realist painters, both historical and contemporary, she strives to learn from other artists whenever she can and continues to delve into art history with relish. Her English-major beginnings persist too; poetry and great literature often inspire ideas in Jennifer's work. Landscape is still her favored subject matter, but she enjoys painting and drawing any subject that intrigues her, including still life and figurative work. |
