Jim Gilmore |
| Discipline(s): Bronze |
Bio:
Jim Gilmore was born and raised on a cattle ranch in Southern Colorado where he continues to live with his wife, Theresa. While growing up he developed an early love for the surrounding mountains and the wildlife that inhabit them. Combining this fascination with a lifelong interest in art, Jim went from cattle rancher to full time sculptor in 1985.
Jim believes an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and animal habits are very important qualities for a wildlife artist. Therefore, he continues to spend many days in the mountains researching and photographing wildlife, which adds to his knowledge of the subjects he sculpts. For this reason, his bronzes find ready acceptance from naturalists, sportsmen, and art collectors alike.
Jim has had no formal art training but believes that his experience has given him a knowledge that would be difficult to learn in a school. He is involved with the molding, casting, and applying of the patina and final finishes to his bronzes. Jim's bronzes are in many private and corporate collections throughout the United States and foreign countries.
Through the years, Jim has participated in hundreds of art shows throughout the United States where he has won many awards such as Best of Show at Safari Club International, Best of Show at the National Wildlife Art Show, and Best of Show at NatureWorks Art Show. He has been commissioned to sculpt monunental sculptures by many individuals, universities, cities, and organizations including Baylor University, Adams State College, NatureWorks, Sapulpa Oklahoma, and Black Hawk Colorado. |
